The practice is committed to a deep understanding of the architectural and construction process and their symbiotic relationship. This acumen, embedded in every project, manifests itself by deciding to expose key elements, using materials sparingly and designing bespoke details. As designers, we take full responsibility for our designs which extends through to their execution and completion, providing a more complete building and product service that demands connectivity. A close collaboration with clients and contractors ensures trust is developed at every stage of the build process. At the same time we have progressed digital fabrication for our projects which further binds design, construction and installation control.
Tsuruta Architects was founded in 2006 by Taro Tsuruta, a Japanese architect who has lived and worked in London since studying for his diploma at the Architectural Association. Tsuruta creatively entwines his particularity with a respectful appreciation of the local everyday architecture and construction techniques. His approach is underpinned by experience gained from travelling and years working for a number of architectural practices.
We have recently enjoyed critical acclaim for the project 'House of Trace' that was warmly received in the press and garnered numerous industry awards, perhaps most notably the Royal Institute of British Architects, Stephen Lawrence Prize 2016.
